Two-month-old baby among COVID-19 cases in Delta, says commissioner

Mordi Ononye, Delta commissioner of health, says a two-month-old baby is among the 77 active cases of COVID-19 in the state.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, Ononye said 13 health workers have tested positive for the disease in the state.
The commissioner said the health workers contracted the disease while attending to positive cases in different parts of the state.
He added that 31 patients have been discharged and eight deaths have been recorded.
He said the baby is responding to treatment and that more patients will be discharged soon.
“We have recorded eight deaths which are about seven percent case fatality rate and conducted 850 tests, with a total of 7,708 calls on our hotlines.
“We have investigated 850 suspects and at present, 13 health workers have been infected.
“No one should doubt that COVID-19 is real. There are confirmed cases in 13 local government areas of the state and 66 percent of those affected are males while 34 percent are females, with a bed occupancy rate of 48 percent.”
Chiedu Ebie, secretary to the state government (SSG), urged residents to obey safety measures put in place by the state government to check the spread of the virus.
“COVID-19 is real and you don’t need the government to pursue you to obey set protocols. We ensure that boundaries across the state are monitored, though it has not been an easy task because some people just want to flout government’s directives,” he said.
Austin Eruotor, the index case of COVID-19 in Delta, was also decorated by the SSG as the state’s COVID-19 ambassador.
