Former Oyo State Governor dies at 70

The Oyo State former Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, has been reported to have died on Thursday at a yet to be reviewed hospital after a brief illness in the country.
The former governor’s death was confirmed to The Guild by a close source from the Oyo state Government and that Ajimobi.
The former governor was said to have died at the age of 70 years leaving behind wife and children.
The news of his death has been passed across to the Oyo state House Assembly and the Speaker of the house is expected to officially announce the passing away of the former governor.

Kayode Odumosu, veteran Nollywood actor, better known as Pa Kasumu, has passed away at 66. He died after an illness. The news of his death was disclosed by Foluke Daramola, a Nollywood  actress, through her Instagram account on Sunday. According to Daramola, the tragedy was broken to her by a close source that stays around the hospital where Pa Kasumu died. “BREAKING NEWS! Our model veteran actor, Pa Kasumu finally takes a bow,” she wrote. “It is with so much heavy pain in our hearts that we regret to announce that our #paraafricafoundation model actor has given up the ghost after a brief illness.” She added that she would keep the public updated on new developments as regards his death. NAN reports that “Pa Kasumu” was a household name in the Yoruba movie industry many years ago, until he was diagnosed with an illness in 2013. He was born on March 16, 1953. He started his acting career at the age of 15 and featured in several home movies.

NIMC sets five-year target to register all Nigerians

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has set a target of capturing the entire population on its database within the next three to five years. The World Bank recently approved a  credit of $430 million for the NIMC  under the Nigeria digital identification for development project. According to the Bretton Wood institution, the credit will be financed through an International Development Association (IDA) credit of US$115 million and co-financing of US$100 million from the French Agency for Development and US$215 million from the European Investment Bank. It said the credit will “support the National Identity Management Commission to increase the number of persons who have a national identification number (NIN) reaching about 150 million in the next couple of years”. “This will enable people in Nigeria, especially marginalised groups, to access welfare-enhancing services. Oluwaforijimi Adewale, a Nigerian disc jockey (DJ) better know as Jimmy Jatt, says DJ business remains the weakest point in Nigeria’s entertainment industry. Nikita Pearl Waligwa, a Ugandan actress who starred in ‘Queen of Katwe’, Disney’s biographical drama film, is dead at 15. The teenage actress was said to have passed away on Saturday at the TMR International Hospital, in Naalya, Kampala, after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. Photos of a vegetable seller picking his wares from a dirty drainage to sell to unsuspecting buyers has emerged on Twitter. The vegetable seller, who sells his goods from a wheel barrow, had a minor accident and some of his vegetables fell into the gutter. Not willing to run at a loss, he bent and dipped his hand into the dirty water in the drainage to pick his tomatoes and cabbage. Edo primary: Oshiomhole violating our party’s constitution, says APC chieftain

Muhammad Jibrin, former deputy national auditor of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says a letter written by Adams Oshiomhole, the party’s national chairman, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is enough to remove him from office. In a letter dated May 19, Oshiomhole  informed the electoral commission  that the party had agreed to choose its governorship candidate for the Edo election through direct primary poll. This was three days before the national working committee (NWC) of the party took the decision.
