Buhari to address the nation on Democracy Day
President Muhammadu Buhari will address the nation on Friday.
This was announced on Thursday in a statement issued by Femi Adesina, special adviser to the president on media and publicity.
According to Adesina, the address is in commemoration of Democracy Day.
“To commemorate Nigeria’s Democracy Day, President Muhammadu Buhari will broadcast to the nation on Friday, June 12, 2020 at 7am,” it read.
“Television and radio stations as well as other electronic media outlets are enjoined to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority and Radio Nigeria respectively for the broadcast.”
In 2018, Buhari had approved June 12 as Democracy Day to honour MKO Abiola, presumed winner of the 1993 presidential election.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has denied claims that it diverted funds intended for corps members’ February allowance to fight coronavirus. More than 83,774 people have been infected; 2,867 have so far died from the killer virus, with Nigeria having  reported its first case  of the ailment on Friday, after an Italian citizen tested positive in Lagos. Femi Fani-Kayode,  a former minister of aviation,  has made his acting debut in ‘Silent Prejudice’, a Nollywood movie. The politician  took to his Instagram page  to disclose that he starred in the series alongside Precious Fani-Kayode, his wife, and Dino Melaye, a former senator representing Kogi west. ‘Silent Prejudice’, which is currently being shot in Abuja, is based on the realities associated with the Osu caste system in southeastern Nigeria. Among others who featured on the 13-episode project are Clem Ohameze, Amaechi Muonago, Monalisa Chinda, Chuks Chyke, Vitalis Ndubuisi, Steve Eboh, and Ofiafuluagu Mbaka.
