PPPRA finance director admits not remitting N501m to FG in 2014

Peter Joshua, the director of finance and administration at Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA), has admitted that the agency did nor remit N501.2 million into the federation account in 2014.
At an investigative hearing by the house of representatives committee on finance on Monday, Joshua said the agency should have remitted N708.6 million, not N207.7 million.
The N708.6 million, he explained, represents 25% of the N2.8 billion generated as revenue by the agency.
According to Joshua, the amount was largely generated from the 15 kobo charged on every litre of fuel imported or refined locally.
Responding to Joshua’s comments, James Faleke, the committee’s chairman, threatened to recommend sanctions against the agency and its officials.
“You are hiding facts from us. It is either you are not competent or whatever you are doing here is deliberate. We will recommend appropriate sanctions,” Faleke said.
“You are sitting on Nigeria’s money even when you know Nigeria cannot finance its capital budget beyond 20 per cent. You have stayed on this seat for too long.
“Remember we have a new sheriff in town. We are not here to joke. What we want is a system where we can finance our budget. If your agency alone is sitting on N500 million yearly based on your declaration in 2014 alone, then what is the essence of PPPRA?”.
NAN reports that Faleke ruled that the agency’s management should reappear before the committee on February 27 with all documents showing revenue generation and remittances from 2011 to date.

EFCC Arrests Adedamola Adewale "@adeherself", 4 Others For Internet Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested and paraded a top social media Influencer, Adedamola Adewale who goes by the username @adeherself on Instagram and Twitter. Adedamola was paraded alongside four other suspects arrested by EFCC for their alleged involvements in various internet frauds.While Adewale, 20, and his accomplice, Lamina Hamzat Ajibola, were arrested at the Agungi area of Lekki, Lagos State, the trio of Israel Onyebuchi, Emmanuel Olayode and Valentine Nwokorie were picked up at the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State. Our protest did not affect collection of samples, says FCT COVID-19 response team

Members of the federal capital territory (FCT) COVID-19 emergency response team say they did not abandon their duty posts despite the non-payment of their N30,000 daily allowance for April and May. TheCable had reported how the health workers converged on the public health department office, Area 3, Garki, Abuja, on Tuesday  demanding payment of their outstanding allowance  before they would return to work. Two policemen shot dead at Ondo checkpoint

At least two policemen were killed after gunmen struck at a checkpoint in Irele local government area of Ondo state. According to Femi Joseph, spokesman of t he Ondo police command, the two officers were killed  at the checkpoint along Ajagba road, on Monday. He said investigations have commenced to unravel the cause of the attack. Joseph added that the officer who sustained injuries in the attack is currently receiving treatment at the hospital. FG extends registration deadline for marginal field bid round to June 21

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has extended the registration deadline for the marginal oil fields bids by one week. In a notice published on Thursday, the agency said the deadline has been moved from June 14 to June 21. It did not give a reason for the extension. If successful, it would be the first marginal field bidding round to hold since 2002. DPR announced the commencement of the bidding rounds on June 1; offering 57 fields located onshore, swamp, and shallow offshore terrains. Marginal fields are smaller oil blocks, with reported reserves and production potential, which have been discovered by companies and have not been developed for over a period of 10 years. Man jumps into lagoon from third mainland bridge

A man, on Saturday, plunged into the lagoon from the Third Mainland bridge in Lagos state. The man, who was identified the man as Daibo Toju Davies of 17, Sosanya street, Soluyi, Gbagada, Lagos, was said to have told the driver of the Uber car he activated from a hospital in Gbagada to stop after which he jumped into the water. Four NSCDC officers abducted in Kogi

At least four officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have been kidnapped. William Aya, a deputy superintendent of police, told NAN that the officers were kidnapped at a spot in Alo-Offoke community on the Itobe-Ayingba road. The officials were said to be travelling to Makurdi for promotion examination when their vehicles were stopped by some gunmen. “Information gathered reveals that four civil defence personnel were among the kidnapped victims,” Aya said, indicating that those kidnapped may be more than four.
