Burna Boy: I pray Nigerians learn from me… Africa’s future depends on the strength I show

Damini Ogulu, Nigeria’s Afrofusion singer better known as Burna Boy, says Nigerians should learn from him, adding that the continent’s future depends on the strength and resilience he shows.
The 28-year-old ‘Ye’ crooner’s comment comes a few days after he had caused a stir on social media for claiming to be the best in the country’s music industry since Fela Kuti, Afrobeat legend.
There have been recent arguments on the foundations of the singer’s success, with many claiming that the likes of Wizkid, Dbanj, and Tuface paved the way for him.
But on Sunday, Burna Boy took to his Twitter to fire a barrage of outrageous tweets, which he later deleted, in reaction to the claims.
He also reacted to comments in some quarters claiming that he has been gloating over his 2020 Grammy loss to Angelique Kidjo, adding that he’s only being antagonized and “wished bad” because he’s truthful.
“Remember I told you I was the African and most of you laughed and said I should be grateful for small fonts. I pray that you learn from me. I mean this in no bragging way,” the tweet read.
“The wise know that the future of Africa depends on the kind of strength and resilience I show.
“You know you danced, sang along to any Burna Boy song, or you were at any of my shows turning up anytime from 2012-2018 and you are following these spineless Olodo’s to say I’ve only been here 2 years.
“You’re following them to rejoice and wish and wish me bad. You say, ‘thank God he didn’t win’ Because I say the truth and because of your twisted fake views on humility.
“I’ve been out here with my family since 2012, going through unspeakable things just to get here against all odds.
“I repeat, nobody that is not Fela or my family can ever say they paved way for me. I drew my own map and followed it. This is just the beginning, though. Una no go sleep.”
